Novelis Sierre is located in Valais, Switzerland, employing around 550 people. It mainly focuses on the production of aluminium for the automotive market, covering the entire process from casting to finishing. The plant also hosts a world-leading Research & Development Center specialized in the development of new automotive sheet alloys, surface treatments, and joining technologies. In February, together with research institutions and a local energy provider, Novelis founded the Net Zero Lab Valais to develop carbon-neutral solutions for aluminium manufacturing. The lab focuses on identifying and implementing solutions to neutralize the carbon footprint of Novelis manufacturing and neighboring communities, starting in the Sierre plant. The plant supports its community through direct sponsorship of many annual events promoting sports and culture.Liquid Metal Treatment EngineerThe R&D department wants to evaluate innovative approaches and rethink traditional molten metal treatment methods. This role is cross-regional and will cover multiple aspects and departments. The incumbent's main tasks will be twofold: firstly, to review existing methods and develop Novelis-born ideas, and secondly, to lead and manage projects up to a lab-scale.Responsibilities:- Design concepts for equipment to implement technologies for molten metal treatment at a lab scale.- Manage projects for prototype design, including financial forecasting, milestone definition, and supplier selection.- Collect, document, and benchmark existing melt ideas and knowledge, including intellectual property.- Propose new ideas and their feasibility for lab-scale testing and establish a multi-year roadmap.- Identify main global players (Subject Experts) in melt treatment and their potential roles to advance technology.- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for molten metal processing in R&D and prepare hand-over to existing scale-up departments.How to convince us:- Bachelor or Master in mechanical engineering, materials science, or metallurgy, with ideally 3-5 years of professional experience as a process engineer for molten metal processing.- Experience in engineering and expertise in aluminum rolled products for the automotive market is an advantage.- Project Management skills with the ability to communicate and coordinate multicultural teams.- Fast learner with an analytical mindset.- Fluent in English and French; German is an advantage. jid762faccaen jit0627aen jpiy26aen
