(Senior) Research Scientist in Industrial Sensor Systems (80% - 100%) f/m/d

In this role you will drive sensing research for ABB’s next-generation systems, translating world-class academic insights into industrial impact. You join a global, collaborative ABB Research team to tackle industrial sensing challenges across automation, process industries, and electrification. You’ll lead projects from concept to experimental verification and contribute to IP and publications. This position offers a hybrid work model and opportunities to grow in a pioneering research environment focused on real-world sensing solutions. You will work to shape scalable sensing technologies that support ABB’s mission to run what runs the world.

• Lead research projects in sensors and industrial sensing applications for ABB business needs
• Develop high-value sensing products from concept to experimental verification with multidisciplinary teams
• Evaluate new technologies, generate project proposals with business impact, and collaborate across research centers, units, and universities
• Disseminate results via scientific publications and internal reports and contribute to intellectual property

• PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field
• Theoretical and practical knowledge in signal processing and data analytics (including ML/deep learning)
• Hands-on experience with test, design, simulation and validation of electronic systems, embedded electronics, wireless connectivity, testing methodologies and data-driven validation, edge/embedded ML deployment
• Proven ability to bring ideas from concepts to prototypes
• Strong interest in sensing technologies and sensor integration in systems
• Context knowledge in electrification-related applications (plus)
• Programming proficiency in C/C++, Python, Matlab and ML frameworks (PyTorch)
• Excellent communication and teamwork; fluent in English
