Position Information
Job Title: Early Childhood Education (ECE)/ Pre‑K Teacher (Certified) – Waterbury Public Schools. Location: Districtwide. Date Posted: 4/20/2026. Date Available: 08/20/2026.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develop classroom behavior rules, and maintain order.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
- Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
- Diagnose learning disabilities, provide input on IEPs.
- Encourage parent participation and collaborate on responsibilities.
- Establish learning objectives based on student needs and district curriculum.
- Observe, evaluate, and follow up on each child's development; plan instructional and developmental support.
- Build relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, setting clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Implement Head Start Program Performance Standards and integrate Head Start service areas.
- Maintain accurate records per legal, district, and Head Start policies.
- Provide student and parent availability outside instructional hours as needed.
- Conduct two home visits and two parent conferences per year for Head Start students.
- Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
- Ensure proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Teach assigned classes on schedule and in designated locations.
- Order materials and equipment as required.
- Participate with Head Start program review and self‑assessment teams.
- Attend Head Start in‑service meetings/training.
- Engage in school management and share responsibility for the full program.
- Plan a program of study that meets student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Supervise paraprofessionals, assistants, and volunteers.
- Utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluations to motivate and enable learning.
- Provide an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social and emotional development.
- Deliver instructional program for all students including those with disabilities.
- Supervise students in various school settings.
- Ensure safety precautions for students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Write instructional plans and prepare classes.
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
- Valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate or suitable endorsements for the assignment.
- Current motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.
- Completion of all State CEU requirements for re‑certification.
- Knowledge of core curriculum areas, child development, educational philosophy, best practices, school policies, instructional technologies, multicultural and disability‑inclusive education, PBIS, SRBI, and district curriculum.
- Skills in classroom management, organization, presentation, mediation, conflict resolution, communication, technology integration, and report development.
- Ability to adapt teaching styles for diverse student populations and collaborate with administrators, colleagues, central office, school‑based staff, students, parents, and community.
- Ability to evaluate and report student performance to enhance achievement, to plan and implement lesson plans, and to manage tasks flexibly.
- Ability to use computer and multimedia technology, work cooperatively, and maintain professional relationships.
- Human relations skills and effective oral and written communication.
- Other relevant skills and abilities as listed above.
