Roster - Software Developer and Metadata Engineer Consultant for Open Code Infrastructure (OCI)

As a Software Developer and Metadata Engineer, you will drive feature development and dual-compatibility metadata work for OCI platforms underpinning ITU/WHO AI for Health initiatives. You will contribute to open-source Croissant/BioCroissant compatibility and document system architecture and deployment. You’ll work under senior engineers to deliver production-ready features and governance-compliant code. This role blends full-stack development with metadata engineering in a global standards context.

• Implement features and bug fixes across backend, API, frontend, and database layers
• Ensure code adheres to architectural patterns and standards
• Develop dual-compatibility for Croissant and Bioschemas via code changes, validators, tests, and fixtures
• Create unit/integration tests and CI hooks to prevent regressions
• Produce technical docs on architecture, deployment, and troubleshooting
• Maintain and transfer knowledge through documentation and guides
• Prepare Croissant pull requests or BioCroissant extension packages for compatibility
• Deliver regular production deployments and documentation for OCI platform

• At least 3 years of progressively responsible software development experience
• Full-stack TypeScript experience on Node.js (NestJS or similar) and modern React framework
• Experience with JSON/JSON-LD, schemas, and validation tools (e.g., Zod, JSON Schema)
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs and OpenAPI 3.x specifications
• Python expertise for evaluation sandbox tooling
• AWS knowledge (ECS, S3, Cognito, RDS/Aurora, IAM) and infrastructure-as-code (AWS CDK)
• CI/CD familiarity (GitHub Actions) and secure deployment practices
• Ability to read open-source codebases, file issues/PRs, and respond to reviews
• Understanding of FAIR data principles and interoperability concepts
• English proficiency at an intermediate level; knowledge of ITU's official languages advantageous
