Overview

In this role you will drive firmware development for power electronic converters and communication modules, enabling robust functionality and cybersecurity. You will work with cross-functional teams to translate system needs into firmware specs and contribute to R&D efforts. The position blends independent work with collaboration in a global engineering context, fostering innovation and knowledge sharing. You will help shape reliable software for critical energy systems while aligning with ABB’s sustainability goals.

Verantwortungsbereiche
  • Design, develop, and implement firmware for power electronic converters and communication modules
  • Perform software quality assurance through unit, integration, and system testing
  • Collaborate with system architects and hardware/software engineers to derive firmware specifications
  • Contribute to R&D initiatives and knowledge sharing to drive continuous improvement
Zentrale Anforderungen
  • MSc or BSc in Information or Electrical, Power Electronics, Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems or comparable field
  • ≥3 years’ experience designing control firmware for microcontrollers/DSPs in power electronic products (UPS, BESS, Renewable Energy)
  • Proficiency in C/C++/Python and firmware development
  • Solid understanding of structured development processes from requirements to testing and documentation
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Git, lifecycle management, build systems, unit testing
  • Familiarity with cyber security concepts; knowledge of Modbus, CAN, EtherCAT is a plus
  • Strong teamwork orientation and ability to communicate in English and Italian
