Overview
As a Distributed Storage Engineer at CERN, you design, evolve, and operate large-scale, distributed storage services for CERN’s computing infrastructure. You work with Ceph-based solutions to ensure high availability and performance across multiple data centers. You will troubleshoot complex systems and contribute to open-source code to improve the Ceph project. You will grow automation, deployment, and observability in a DevOps-oriented environment. This role supports data-intensive science across LHC and partner collaborations.

- Manage and operate distributed storage services (block, object, filesystem) based on Ceph
- Evolve architecture and design of storage services for CERN and open-source software-defined storage
- Integrate, troubleshoot, and maintain storage systems at scale across multiple zones and data centers
- Contribute to documentation, development, optimization, and automation of storage services
- Contribute to change management, incident response, and user support
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders within/ outside IT
- Strong interest in service management: operations, troubleshooting, user support, automation
- Deep understanding of Linux performance, tuning, and administration
- Deep understanding of distributed storage architecture (NFS, CephFS)
- Debugging in complex distributed environments across hardware, network, and software
- Demonstrated experience in C++ development for distributed storage systems (Ceph preferred)
