Overview
In this PhD role you will advance bioelectronic medicine by engineering programmable cells and interfaces that respond to electrical, electromagnetic, acoustic and biochemical cues. You join a cross-disciplinary team at ETH Zurich that combines biology, engineering, and materials science to translate lab breakthroughs into clinically relevant therapies. You will work on closed-loop control of cellular behavior and real-time metabolic monitoring, with opportunities to design implants and develop control software. This is a hands-on, translational research position at the nexus of synthetic biology, nanotechnology, and bioelectronics, offering a meaningful impact in healthcare.

- Develop bioelectronic interfaces enabling closed-loop programming of cellular behavior
- Perform computational simulations to support design and optimization
- Fabricate bioelectrode devices and integrate with electrical engineering methods
- Design novel bioelectronic implants and contribute to control software development
- Collaborate with molecular biologists and bioengineers across multidisciplinary teams
- Background in physics, materials science, or chemistry
- Ideally experience in bioelectronics or software simulations or a strong willingness to acquire it
- Solid knowledge of electrochemistry and materials chemistry
- Willingness to collaborate with biology and engineering colleagues
