Qualifications

  1. Completed and graduated from an accredited Occupational Therapy Professional Program recognized by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and have completed all fieldwork requirements.
  2. Two years of experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  3. Occupational Therapy experience in a school system or pediatric practice setting preferred.
  4. Current certification by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  5. Valid Colorado driver's license.

Job Goal

Responsible for screening, evaluating, implementing, and modifying therapeutic programs and interventions for students identified with or suspected of having disabilities/deficits that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities. Disabilities/deficits may include, but are not limited to, oral motor, sensory integration, motor planning, developmental function, activities of daily living, fine motor function, postural tone, etc.

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Participates in the child study, referral and IEP process as requested and appropriate.
  2. Makes scheduling decisions for service delivery based on individual student and school needs.
  3. Utilizes an approach that encourages student participation in the least restrictive environment.
  4. Exhibits knowledge of clinical theory and its application as it relates to the student's educational needs.
  5. Participates in the selection, design and/or construction of necessary adaptive equipment.
  6. Responds to requests for consultations on students or consults on specific program needs.
  7. Responds to evaluation referrals for students with disabilities. The therapist selects appropriate evaluation tools, evaluates students, interprets findings, and reports results.
  8. Completes portions of the IEP pertaining to assessment findings and present levels of functioning, assistive technology and accommodations and modifications.
  9. Maintains records on students including progress monitoring.
  10. Maintains a current schedule which is shared with assigned schools and the Department of Special Programs.
  11. Supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs).
  12. Participates in the clinical supervision of occupational therapy students and occupational therapy assistant students.
  13. Recommends equipment, materials, and test supplies necessary for assigned schools and students.
  14. Serves on committees that benefit the learning environment for students, therapists, and other school personnel that may include the assistive technology team and infant assessment team.
  15. Travels to assigned schools.

  • Knowledge and use of occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence-based practice to guide intervention decisions.
  • Knowledge of the federal, state, local legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures that mandate and guide occupational therapy practice in schools.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, building, and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Salary

Occupational Therapistsare on the Special Services Provider Salary Schedule and is based uponyears of experience.

One year of credit will be provided for each year of approved outside experience.
